Body Mind Spirit Image & Poster Design
Monday 11 January 2021
I would like to start my new year blog with exciting news. This is the second year that my poster image and design has been approved and accepted by the forum+ management as the publicity image for LGBTQ History Month and Loudest Whispers 2021 Art Exhibition, hosted by The Arts Project. This is a big honour and a very proud moment. Forum+ is an independent charity, working to improve the lives of LGBT in Camden, Islington and the surrounding boroughs. They aim to promote equality and diversity by the elimination of discrimination in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people living, working, socialising and/or studying in Camden and Islington and, where appropriate, neighbouring boroughs and London. forumplus.org.uk
With this year’s beautiful theme, Body Mind Spirit, I had the creative freedom and the opportunity to choose the model and design the photoshoot around the final image that I had in mind. The idea of Body, Mind and Spirit being in balance for physical, mental and spiritual well being was something I definitely wanted to incorporate into the design. The symbolic angelic figure, standing on earth, carrying scales that balanced mind and spirit, was something that developed later.
The most important choice in this project was the model, a strong figure with great presence and conviction. I was delighted that my first choice, Florent Bidois, whom I have seen at gallery openings, always dressed flawlessly in his personally designed creations and headdresses, agreed to take part in the project. London has this wonderful culture of extraordinary artists that expresses through clothes and makeup which is also known as the London Colour Walk, organised by Florent and inspired by his good friend, the colour queen, Sue Kreitzman. This French fashion designer and London fashion icon, identifies as male but dresses in beautiful flamboyant designed dresses and head pieces. The glasses and facial hair is part of his unique look and passionate about expressing his creativity in this extravagant way. He is highly intelligent, creative, kind and also brave as you can imagine the looks and remarks he has to endure at times. I admire this artist as nothing will derail his vision and artistic journey. instagram.com/florent.bidois/
The image, Body Mind Spirit, is build up out of 80 layers of photographic elements that includes the model, grunge filters, light and shade overlays, font layers and blending filters (this excludes editing preparations of the individual model and elements). The process started with a simple drawing of the idea, then photographing the model, followed by gathering all the stock photographic elements to create the composition and scene. Lastly I used grunge, light and shade filters to blend all the elements and layers together in PhotoshopCC. This has been positively the most enjoyable project and experience.
Body Mind Spirit is a photographic art manipulation and design for 2021 LGBTQ History Month.
A mixture of my own photography and stock elements.
Original size – 50 x 67cm
Thank you to Peter Herbert from The Arts Project and Tessa Havers-Strong from forum+ for this opportunity.
